Message For the Children of Christadelphians
If anyone needs to properly understand and evaluate the Christadelphian community it is
YOU!!
You, like me, have probably been brought up and constantly heard how Christadelphians alone have “the Truth.” You, like me, have probably been brought up to view everyone else in them-versus-us terms. Mainstream society is “the world” and other Christians are at best misguided, at worst part of a worldwide apostasy from truth. Some of you are under pressure to decide whether or not to be baptised and which camp you will be on. I cannot tell you what to do or believe, but this site may provide information to help with that evaluation.
Unlike your parents it seems likely if you join the Christadelphians it will need to deal with greater challenges than they faced and you will be entering a community where the difference between the “inside” and “outside” is far greater. For many in the community today the rhetoric about struggle has been far greater than the reality. For many existing Christadelphians the community has provided creedal certainty and many have enjoyed financial and social benefits. Many of the older members can see the struggles you face and are glad they did not face them themselves, but that will not help you. Given a vision of the fall of Jerusalem Hezekiah was glad it was not to be in his days. Your predicament is more that of Daniel and you are going to need more than tradition.
The questions and issues this site raises, whilst provocative to some, may be very important for you. The Bible says very clearly “do not place your trust in men.” They will train you to follow a set of traditions, but consider carefully whether that leadership extends to the challenging issues in providing real ways forward. Make sure it works on all the levels.
